The Three Way Cut (and other ways to cheat at coloring) February 2004
Card designers are always looking for great ways to whip up cards in a flash. If you have a need for speed in your card art, you know the frustration that can arise when coloring in your stamped designs takes too much time. This month we look at some fun ways to use plenty of color without actually coloring in your designs. This technique will also create an automatic three cards with every attempt. Enjoy!
Supplies needed for Card at Left
Cardstock for stamping 3 images medium green, light green, gold
Dark green cardstock for card base
gold for matte and triumph word (PSX) dark green torn for matte
Stampington Collage style stamp (Triumph) used in sample, try other collage images or the Magenta flowers shown below.
ChalkBox ink Moss green

Misc: Stamp cleaner, paper towel, scratch paper, cutting tool, bone folder
Directions:

Stamp image on gold and "crooked trim" leaving about a 1/4" border

Stamp image on medium and light green and trim close.

Hold two greens on top of each other and cut image into thirds

Adhere two green pieces on either side of the larger whole gold image (use one light green and one dark)

Stamp word and crooked cut and mat on torn green

Assemble card onto base

Include a message or note inside and always sign your artwork!

Design Notes:
This is a very easy way to make multiple cards, just keep using the pieces you cut up. :)

Experiment with overlapping (as on sample above) and leaving space between pieces (as on samples below)

Use the same color of ink on different color papers to keep continuity in your design.

Use different colors of ink on the same color paper for a similar but different look

Try this with VersaMark(tm) ink on one or all of the images.

Experiment with vertical and horizontal cuts for different effects.

Put embossing powder or dimensional paint in the "grout lines" of separated designs.
