Works Every Time Series--Stickers and Rub-ons
Introduction
Stickers and rub-on designs layered with cardstock and embellished with 3-D items result in cards that are sure to please the recipient and the artist. Create these easy and fun cards in batches using scraps from other projects you’ve made previously.
There seems to be a driving force among hobbyists and artists to collect the newest and coolest products. Usage of these products is apparently optional because we find ourselves adopting some right away and the rest just sits in our supply stash. Cards are the perfect landing zone for stash inventory. Something about a card seems less vital than a scrapbook page, a collage, or other art form.
This page is a companion to my article in Suite 101, Quick Handmade Cards-Part 3. Check out the article and read the additional tips here while viewing photos of examples.(click to enlarge)
Stickers from Crafty Secrets were layered onto a stamped heart background and embellished with sheer ribbon plus a "brad word" that reads Happy.
Tip: Make stickers pop up by brushing the backs with baby powder or pigment powder (my favorite) to release the stickiness. Layer designs over each other or if you're low on supplies and high on patience, just powder part of the design, such as the petals on flowers, and curl them a bit for dimension.

Easter Rub-On Collection
The cards above were all completed in one hour with a single set of rub-ons from Reminisce. The rub-ons were a gift from Reminisce to members of the Spellbinder's design team and they were easier for me to use on cards because they aren't my style for use on layouts or collage. All rub-ons were applied successfully and easily with the use of the Wizard from Spllbinders.
Tip: Mix up print papers with solid card stock and ribbons.
Tip: Anchor rub-ons and stickers with their own mattes.
Tip: Use stickers and rub-ons in clusters and pairs for a more cohesive design.
I won third place in a contest with Delta one time and these stickers were part of my cool and generous prize package. They would have been great for Valentine's day but it was Mother's Day before they arrived. I used samples from ParperCrafts magazine to help with my layouts.
Tip: Use a slide frame to emphasize a sticker and embellish with ribbon, brads, and label makers words.
Tip: Use tiny tags to matte tiny stickers and finish off the design with a word stamps. Unify the design with silver threads that connect.
Tip: Cut out a window in a matte or the card front to add interest to your design.

Two Types of Sticker and Rub-on Cards
1. The Clean-up Cads: Use the leftovers from a larger project to make a card before you clean up. Sample shown at right.
2. The Color or Theme Cards-Pull out items in your stash that coordinate by color or theme such as the Nature Sticker session or Easter Rub-ons shown above.
Make your Own Stickers
Use an adhesive application system ( I used the Xyron) to make stickers from any paper. At right, I made a circle sticker, a stamp image sticker, and a tag sticker by punching, cutting, and die cutting paper from a larger project. I even borrowed design ideas from the larger project for the card.
