Renew this book!
Create an artful journal from an outdated or otherwise “lonely” book.
Journals open a world of discovery. They are not just for “real” writers or artists; they are for everyone that has thoughts--everyone that desires more meaning and creativity in their lives.
Alter a book into your own artful journal and stretch your creative boundaries. The Renew this book! series guides you with videos, photographs, and written tutorials through the theory and process of creating your own visual journal.

The terms visual journal and artist journal are interchanged throughout this process because so many of the wonderful people I work with think they couldn’t possibly be artists, but they are visual thinkers.
Recommendations for your journal book base
Select a “guilt free” book: such as a book you know would have a more useful life as a journal than in its current condition.
**Ten years to fifteen years past copyright date
**Contains information that is no longer be current
**Collecting dust on your shelf or in a thrift store
Look for a secure binding that will accommodate removal of pages.
Select a book with photos or drawings and charts already on the pages
Choose the best paper choice for your pages—you will be adding paint, ink, and collage items so you will need a sturdy paper.
**Note if a slick or porous surface paper works best for you
Old textbooks are often a great option in this process.
