As you fill your journal you will experience those “ah ha” moments that inspire you for future entries, upcoming projects, or just to-do lists. Don’t let those gems of inspiration get lost—return to them quickly and easily with a creative book mark. The traditional narrow vertical rectangle with a tassel on one end will work nicely, but when you are in the mood for something a little beyond the traditional work up some of these easy corner style book marks from scraps you have laying around.

Process

Suggested Supplies

Lightly pencil a line from the half way point on each edge across the square to the other side. You will have a cross when finished to use as a guide.
Fold upper half of left and right side squares to the center forming a point.
*hint—use a ruler and scoring tool to make folding easier
*hint—try one out of thinner paper first to understand the folding process better
Glue a smaller triangle over the “seam” in back to secure top.
Erase any visible pencil marks.
Decorate the front of the corner marker with pens, words, scraps, punches, etc.
For a finished look, put a narrow border of color around every edge with a marker or ink pad.

Ideas:
Use these on greeting cards as a removable bonus gift. Be sure to trim your cards so that they will fit in the envelope with the corner book mark.
Try them on the outside of page protected scrapbook pages to add more dimension to your scrapbooks.
Make coordinating sets to give as party favors, give-away promotions for your home party business, and holidays.
Enlarge the triangle on the back to come out over the front so the book mark will stick out more while in use.

Inspiration
An online search will show lots of ideas for these designs with cool elaborate features.
I was inspired to create these from a tutorial on Split Coast Stampers by Beate
There is also a You Tube video by Carmensvideos that shows the origami technique for making these which is very cool too:
